DESCRIPTION:Fulfills CE licensing requirement for education about laws pertaining to the practice of psychology; ethics and professional conduct in the practice of psychology; or managing risks associated with the practice of psychology.\nWorkshop Level: All levels\nProgram Description: The workshop will focus on the current Maryland laws and regulations applicable to mental health service providers, including use of technology (telehealth, digital communication, social media, and the use of artificial intelligence in practice), impacts of the 21st Century CURES Act, record-keeping and data security, closing a practice (retirement) and creating a professional will. Last, discussion of some hypothetical case studies will provide an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application in the practice of psychology. Learning Objectives: After attending this workshop, it is expected that participants be able to:\n\nExplain the new Maryland laws impacting mental health.\nExplain the obligations and options for planning to retire.\nExplain the benefits of a Professional Will.\nDescribe the legal and ethical issues relating to the use of artificial intelligence in the practice of psychology.\nIdentify and explain impacts of the 21st Century CURES on practice and patient access.\n\nAbout the Presenter: Richard Bloch is President of Shiling, Bloch & Hirsch, P.A. and has been in private practice in Maryland since 1972. He received his B.A. from the George Washington University and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. His practice focuses primarily on health law and representation of healthcare providers before the Boards of Examiners, business law, estate planning and administration, and civil litigation. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association. Mr. Bloch was General Counsel to the Maryland Psychological Association from 1979-2025. He has written numerous articles and lectures frequently on legal and ethical issues pertaining to the practice of psychology and mental health.\nRichard Bloch receives a speaker’s honorarium from APP for this presentation.
