DESCRIPTION:Practicing Psychology: Current Legal and Ethical Issues\nPresented by Richard Bloch, Esq.\nWorkshop Level: All levelsThis workshop is for licensed psychologists who want to discuss current legal and ethical issues relatingto practicing psychology.\nThis workshop fulfills CE licensing requirement for education about laws pertaining to the practice of\npsychology; ethics and professional conduct in the practice of psychology; or managing risks\nassociated with the practice of psychology.\n\nProgram Description: The workshop will focus on the current Maryland laws and regulations applicableto mental health service providers, including telepsychology, rights of a minor to consent to treatment,confidentiality, subpoenas and testifying, mandatory reporting, and obligations under the No SurprisesAct.\nLearning Objectives: After attending this workshop, it is expected that participants be able to:• Describe the legal and ethical issues relating to the practice of psychology.• Explain the psychologist’s obligations under the No Surprises Act.• Recognize reportable instances under the mandatory reporting laws.• Explain the discretion of the psychologist regarding the rights of a minor to consent totreatment.• Describe the limitations and requirements for telehealth.• Explain the mental health practitioner’s role in responding to subpoenas and in courtproceedings.\nAbout the Presenter: Richard Bloch is President of Shiling, Bloch & Hirsch, P.A. and has been in private practice in Marylandsince 1972. He received his B.A. from the George Washington University and his J.D. from the University of MarylandSchool of Law. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, theUnited States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. His practice focuses primarilyon health law and representation of healthcare providers before the Boards of Examiners, business law, estate planning andadministration, and civil litigation. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the Baltimore County BarAssociation. Mr. Bloch has been General Counsel to the Maryland Psychological Association since 1979. He has written numerous articles and lectures frequently on legal and ethical issues pertaining to the practice of psychology and mental health.\nRichard Bloch receives a speaker’s honorarium from APP for this presentation.
